Friday, 8 May 2020 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM PST

This two part, small group Zoom workshop is for every small business owner wanting to have a deeper understanding of how taxes actually work.

Participants will explore the deep intricacies of the 1040 and it's many many schedules...but this is not a boring read through of IRS documents. Rather, attendees will be boarding "Space Station 1040", for a guided tour of the weird and often mystifying universe that is our annual tax filings, as told through the metaphor of space exploration.

Part 1 is Friday, May 8th, 2-4pm
Part 2 is Friday, May 15th, 2-4pm

Topics will include:

  • Tax implications of running your own business: Understanding and predicting federal and state income taxes, local taxes, self employment taxes, estimated taxes and corporate taxes.
  • Understanding the 1040 - no more mysteries (well at least a LOT less).
  • Doing your own taxes vs. hiring someone.
  • What to track for business income/expenses.
  • Other important tax deductions.
  • Developing your financial-administrative world
  • Contractors vs. employees.
  • Evaluating legal and tax structures and registering your business: Sole proprietorships; LLCs; Partnerships; S-, C- and 501(c)3 corporations.
  • Whether you can write off space suits or rocket ship pilot classes.

Part 1 will be a general overview of the tax universe, Part 2 will zero in on business deductions. (Joining with Part 2 is not allowed; we'll be picking up right where we left off in Part 1).

Both parts are will use https://zoom.us/ - details will follow after registration.
